2 December 1910 - The Lowden News

Catharina Elizabeth Meyer, nee Gramekow, was born on July 17, 1837, in Luebesee, near Schoenberg, in Mecklenburg, Schwerin. In 1863 she was united in marriage to John Meyer to whom she gave five children, of whom two died in infancy. The surviving children are Heinrich Meyer of Bennett, Johannes Meyer of O'Brien county and Mrs. Elsie Klinkkammer, wife of Peter Klinkkammer.

In 1881 with a party of fifteen including her husband and children she came to this country. They lived at first near Tipton, then near Clarence and south of Lowden, where Mr. Meyer died Oct. 20, 1891. For some years she farmed with her youngest son. About ten years ago she moved to Clarence and bought the house in which she died.

She was ailing about two weeks, but was sick in bed only five days. The cause of her death was some kind of liver trouble.

Death came to her Nov. 20, 1910, at 1 o'clock a.m., aged 73 years, 4 months and 12 days. The three children and eleven grandchildren mourn her death.

The funeral took place today with services at the house at 1 p.m. and at St. John's church at 1:30, Rev. E. Hansen conducted the same. Interment followed in the Clarence cemetery. -- Clarence Sun.
