25 October 1912 - The Lowden News

The death of Mrs. Alma Lietz, wife of Henry Lietz, occurred at the home of her mother on Saturday morning, Oct. 19, at 6:55 o'clock. The cause of her death was heart failure. Mrs. Lietz died in the same house where she was born. She had been suffering for some time and went to the home of her mother, Mrs. Lendt, hoping to get well, under the care of Miss Atkinson, a trained nurse from Davenport, who with the aid of Dr. Dean done everything in their power to eleviate her suffering and prolong her life, but of no avail, as the Almighty God will otherwise.

Mr. Lietz was the second eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Lendt and was born on the 18th day of November, 1873. Her first eight years she spent in Wheatland and attended the Wheatland school for three years when she, with her parents, moved to a farm near Toronto, where she finished her school days, when she again moved with her parents to a farm near Dixon, Iowa, where she was married to Henry Lietz on Oct. 18, 1893. Shortly after their marriage they moved to the farm of Wm. Kietz northeast of Lowden, where she made her home ever since.

She was a kind and loving mother, a patient sufferer. Deceased leaves to mourn her death her husband and four children, three boys and one daughter, Amos, Julius, Henry and Ilda; her mother, Mrs. Mary Lendt, and four brothers, Eidich, at home; Bruno, of Ireton, Ia.; Koerner, of Clarence; Herbert, of Burke, S.D., and two sisters, Mrs. Geo. Strackbein, of Big Rock, Ia., and Mrs. Conrad Reinking Jr., of near Wheatland. She was preceded by her father, three brothers and two sisters.

The funeral services were conducted in the Evangelical church Wednesday morning at eleven o'clock by Rev. Werning. Remains were interred in the Lowden cemetery. The pallbearers were Louie Ruchtozke, Herman Steinke, John Burmeister, L. F. Schlueter, Louis Licht and Henry Struck.
