26 February 1959 - The Clarence Sun

Mabel, daughter of the late John and Margaret Jerguson Greig, was born at the farm home of her parents, northeast of Clarence March 4, 1878.

In this community she grew to womanhood attending the local schools. She came with her parents to town in 1899 which was her home until she went to Cedar Rapids finding employment there. About 20 years ago she like so many others went to California attracted by its milder climate and found at home at Pasadena.

Due to her physical condition shortly after the first of this year her relatives brought her back to Iowa so they could more personally care for her. She passed away on the morning of Tuesday, February 17, 1959, at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 14 days.

Many years ago she united with the Clarence Presbyterian Church where she sang for many years in the choir.

She leaves a brother John W. Greig, a sister, Mrs. Margaret Sylvester who did all they could to care for their sister in her declining days, both of Clarence and Mrs. Nettie Hoyman of Cedar Rapids and their respective families.

Funeral services were held at the Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20th, 1959, with the service being conducted by Gordon Smith. The music was furnished by Mrs. Howard Folk, organist.

Interment was made in the Clarence cemetery by the side of her parents.
