Miss Lydia Katherine Bauman was born February 14, 1870 near Clarence and was the daughter of Margaret Plank and John Bauman.

She attended rural schools and the Clarence Public School and Iowa State Teachers College. She taught in the rural schools of this community and in Woodbury county. After teaching a few years she was a bookkeeper at the Clarence Savings Bank retiring to care for her mother. Later she was a clerk in Washington, D.C. during World War I. She was the first Librarian of the Clarence Public Library serving there for eleven years.

Miss Bauman was an active member of the Methodist Church and the W.S.C.S.

She was a charter member of the Wednesday Literary Club, which was founded more than 50 years ago.

At the time of her death she had reached the age of 88 years, 7 months and 28 days. She passed away on Sunday, October 12, 1958.

Surviving is a brother Henry of Clarence, also some nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 14th, 1958 at 1:30 p.m. being conducted by Dist. Supt. Dr. C. H. Pettersen. The music was furnished by Mrs. Eugene McCaw, Mrs. Robert Joslin and Mrs. Roland Mingst with Miss Dorothy Ashton, organist. In charge of the floral tributes were Mrs. Henry Feddersen and Mrs. Paul Simpson. Pallbearers were Paul Busching, Henry Feddersen, Robert Kelly, Randolph Kastler, Paul Simpson and Elmer Sawyer.

Interment was made in the Clarence Cemetery.
