Walter J. Leinbaugh, a retired farmer and member of the Cedar County Board of Supervisors, passed away suddenly, Tuesday, August 12, 1958 at his home in Clarence at the age of 75 years and 8 months.

Mr. Leinbaugh was born at Lost Nation, Iowa, December 12, 1883. He was one of ten children, and was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. He was married to Blanche Kent on February 12, 1913 in the Dayton Valley vicinity. Two daughters were born to them.

For 31 years Mr. Leinbaugh engaged in farming east of Clarence. He retired from farming in 1944 and moved to Clarence, where he subsequently resided.

He served twelve years as a Massillon Township Trustee, nine years on the Board of Education of the Clarence Consolidated School, twelve years on the Board of the Clarence Cooperative Association, seven years on the Cedar County Board of Supervisors. Mr. Leinbaugh was recently awarded a certificate of merit by the State of Iowa for his service on the County Board of Social Welfare.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. John Barlon of LaCresenta, California, and Mrs. Roy Mitchell of Fairfield, Iowa; and three grandsons; four brothers, Lafe, Clarence; Arthur and Clarence, Lost Nation; Louis, Lisbon; four sisters, Mrs. LaVanche Wulff, Mrs. Lucille Wagner and Iva Leinbaugh, all of Lost Nation and Mrs. Lottie Hamer of Texas.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Clarence at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 1958, being conducted by Rev. Cyril Ashton and Elder U. J. Fike. The music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. U. J. Fike with Mrs. Howard Folk as organist. In charge of the floral tributes were Mrs. Charles Kembel and Mrs. Elwood Kirkpatrick. The pallbearers were Amos Noring, Karl Schnipkoweit, Milton Behrens, Herbert Robinson, Paul Rix and Elwood Kirkpatrick.

Interment was made at the Clarence Cemetery.
