John C. Long, the retired Stanwood postmaster, died at his home on Monday, April 21st, at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 23 days.

Mr. Long was born at Clarence October 28, 1884 and on June 12, 1906 was married to Luella McConkie. Mrs. Long died last year.

He was postmaster at Stanwood for 18 years before retiring 4 years ago, was secretary of the school board for 25 years, a former councilman and at the time of his death, town clerk and town assessor.

He was a member of the Methodist church, Freemont A.F. & A. M. lodge and of the O.E.S.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Mrs. Walter Hetzel of Ames and Mrs. D. C. Chittenden of Grapevine, Texas.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Stanwood on Wednesday, April 23, 1958 at 1:30 p.m. being conducted by Dr. C. H. Pedersen. The music was furnished by Mrs. John Swift as soloist and Mrs. Edward Speer as organist. In charge of the floral tributes were Mrs. Elmer Barnes and Mrs. Arthur Lehrman. The pallbearers were Glen Thumma, Arthur Lehrman, Art Ropa, Phillip Rosenbaum, Elmer Barnes and Henry Ormsby.

Masonic Rites were given by C. J. Butler.

Interment was made in the Stanwood Cemetery.
