4 December 1908 - The Lowden News

Francis Drost was born in Amt Weizenberg, Mecklenbrug-Schwerin, Germany, on November 28th, 1823. He came to America in 1852, and resided for the first year in Illinois, and then moved to Davenport, Iowa. He was married to Miss Dorothea Fehrmann. To this union were born six children, three of whom preceded their parents to the better world.

In 1869 Mr. Drost and family came to Cedar Co., and bought a farm in Limmerick, Springfield Tp., whereon Mr. Drost resided just an even quarter of a century, but Mrs. Drost for only 24 years, as death took her hence in 1893.

In 1894 Mr. Drost moved on to another farm in Scott Co., 1 1/2 miles southwest of Big Rock, which he had bought. This farm is now the home of his son, Emil, and family. While the oldest son, Herman, and family, reside in their old home, and Mr. Drost's daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Hillmann, and children, resided at Wheatland, Iowa.

During late years deceased made his home with his children, residing most of the time with his son Emil, and family, and it was at their Scott Co. home at which Francis Drost departed life. He died Saturday evening, Nov. 28th, at 6:30 on his 85th birthday anniversary, after having been sick only a few days with inflammation of the bowels, the end was hastened with pneumonia and other complications setting in.

Besides his two sons and one daughter mentioned, there survives to mourn Mr. Drost's death also several grandchildren.

We have known Mr. Drost for over 30 years, and know nothing but good of him. If all people led a life like he did, the world would certainly be a great deal better.

Funeral was held Wednesday forenoon with services at the house, Rev. Link of Wheatland officiating. And they laid Mr. Drost to rest, a miles south of Lowden, on the Van Horn cemetery besides the remains of his wife. "Peace be with their ashes".
