Johann Richter passed away at his home in East Lowden on Tuesday morning, April 30, 1912, at about 2:30 o'clock, at the age of 80 years and 20 days. He had been ailing ever since last fall with dropsy, but in the last few weeks he gradually grew worse and he expected an end soon.

Mr. Richter was born on April 10, 1832, at Gadebusch, Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany. In the year 1870 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Kahl, his now sorrowing widow. To this union was born one daughter in 1878 but died at the age of three years.

In 1872 Mr. Richter and wife came to America and located in the surrounding country of Lowden. They resided on different farms until in 1886 when they made their home in a little cottage in the eastern part of Lowden. Here they have lived for the past 26 years.

Deceased was during his active year in life a sturdy hard-working farmer. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor and citizen. He was well liked by all who knew him. The vacancy caused by his death will be severely felt especially by the sorrowing widow. He was a member of the Lowden German Evangelical church for the past several years.

There survive to mourn Mr. Richter's demise his widow, one step-daughter, one son-in-law, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many other near relatives. All relatives and friends that could possible come were here to attend the funeral.

The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the German Evangelical church at Lowden. Rev. Werning conducted the services. The pall bearers were Fred Conrad, Carl Woebking, George Ficke, Anton F. Hoeltke, C. H. Hansen and John Stoecker and they laid him to rest in the Lowden cemetery. "Friede Seiner Asche".
