Last rites for Owen LeRoy (Bennie) Merritt, 58, Tipton barber, were held at the Sheets and Son funeral home Oct. 27 with the Rev. Eugene Miller officiating.
Pallbearers were James Phelps, Richard Barden, Donald Rodgers, Norman McQuillen, George Lemkau and Raymond Schnack. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist. Mrs. Loren Voss and Mrs. Mina Kroger were in charge of flowers.
Mr. Merritt died at Cedar Manor Oct. 24 following an extended illness.
The son of Casper A. and Sadie Wilson Merritt, he was born in Clarence Nov. 14, 1912 and was educated in the Clarence schools. He was married to Geraldine A. Leatherberry at Cedar Rapids Oct. 5, 1933.
A lifetime resident of Cedar county, he had lived in Tipton since 1956 and operated a barber shop in the Masonic building.
He was a member of the Tipton Lions club and the Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, 2 sons, Dale and Duane, Bettendorf and a brother, Wayne, Clarence.
