Mechanicsville - Funeral services for Hurley Scott, 75, will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. in the Methodist church.

Mr. Scott died late Monday in Veterans' hospital, Iowa City.

A well known Cedar county businessman, he operated restaurants in Mechanicsville, Stanwood and Tipton and a tavern in Mechanicsville before his retirement. Mr. Scott was also a candidate for the Republican nomination for Cedar county sheriff.

Mechanicsville - Services for Hurley D. Scott, 74, a longtime resident and former Mechanicsville businessman were held in the United Methodist church Sept. 9. The Rev. James Nelson conducted the service. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Howard Rinehart, Merle Clifton, Robert Ross, Lee Scott, Gene Thimmes and J. C. Butler were pallbearers. Everett Ferguson, Frank Wilson, William Shrope, Lester Nicoll, Earl Miller and Clarence Maher were honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Scott died at the Veterans hospital, Iowa City, Sept. 6. He had been in failing health for some time.

Hurley D. Scott, the son of George and Elizabeth Scott, was born at Bayard, Nov. 27, 1896. He received his education in the Mechanicsville schools and he was married to Gladys V. Koppenhaver in Marion, May 26, 1920. He served in World War I and was a member of the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge, the Mechanicsville fire department and the United Methodist church.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys, 2 daughters, Mrs. Milford (LaVaughn) Pruess, Mrs. Robert (Joye) Davidson; a son, Roxy J.; a sister, Mrs. Mamie Thimmes, 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a niece, Mrs. Deloris Shaffer and a nephew, John D. Scott.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Clair and a brother who died in infancy.
