Funeral services for George Henrich Thien, 89, retired farmer, were held at the Dye Funeral home March 29 with the Rev. Ernest Lauer officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Melvin Thien, Hermann Onken, Lawrence Techau, Arnold Conrad, Harold Muesing and Norbert Ebert. Mrs. Lawrence Techau, Mrs. LaVern Suchomel and Mrs. Milo Carroll were in charge of flowers. George Thordsen was vocalist and Mrs. Arnold Swan was organist.

Mr. Thien died at his home in Tipton March 26, following a lengthy illness.

The son of Johann Dietrich and Johanne Margarethe Marie Hullen Thien, he was born in Schwee, Oldenburg, Germany March 15, 1882 and received his education in schools in that area. He came to the United States in 1899, coming first to Kansas where he remained for 2 years and then to the Tipton area where he spent the remainder of his life.

He was married to Anna Louise Marie Ebert at St. John's Evangelical church at Clarence March 5, 1908.

Thien was a member of the United Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, 4 sons, Lester Dietrich William, Leo Albert and Lloyd Robert, all of Tipton; Lorence Christ, Clarence and 2 daughters, Mrs. Lilly Margaret Brady, Tipton and Mrs. Lulu Louise Wilhelmine Clark, New York; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and a brother, Edo, Tipton.

Mr. Thien was preceded in death by a son, Leonard, 2 granddaughters, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
