7 April 1911 - The Lowden News

George Archie Caldwell was born here in Lowden on September 1st, 1873. He died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Caldwell, on April 3rd, 1911, at the age of 37 years, 7 months and 2 days. He is survived by his father and mother, his sister, Mrs. W. H. Cole of Lexington, Nebr., and his brothers, Charles of Tipton, and Herbert of Stanwood.

Archie was taken sick with bright's disease and confined to his bed from November 26th, 1910, until the time of his death. He had been ailing for the last five years but continued to work up to November of last year as pumper and gateman for the Chicago & North-Western Railroad. He was a bachelor.

Archie was of a cheerful and happy disposition; he was well liked by all who knew him. He was a frequent caller at the Lowden News office, stepping in for a social chat and looking over the news in the daily papers and hunting for items of wit and humor, reading of which he would greatly enjoy. He was well read in history and kept posted on all current topics as long as he was able to be about. He also occasionally furnished us news items of interest. He was always greatly interested in this local paper and has been greatly missed in this office since he took worse in November.

The whole community sympathizes deeply with the bereaved family, and more particularly with the aged parents, as Archie was the third one of their children who was taken from them by death in but little over two years. Archie's brother, Chester L., died Oct. 9th, 1910, at the age of 36 years, 8 months and 15 days and his sister, Mrs. Walter Waite, died February 11th, 1909 at the age of 46 years and 11 months. Death causes grief wherever he appears but to call at one home three times in such a short time certainly brings great sorrow. May the loved ones of the departed find consolation in Him who doeth all things well.

Archie Caldwell's funeral was held Wednesday afternoon with services at the M. E. Church. Rev. Davis of Stanwood officiated and the sweet singing of the choir helped in making the services most impressive; the floral pieces were many and beautiful. The pall bearers were Albert Licht, A. P. Reid, R. D. McGillivray, Theo. Spoo, Louis M. Kreinbring and H. F. Pancratz, and they laid Archie to rest in the Lowden cemetery. May he rest in peace.
