Last rites for Isaac Achenbach, 85, retired Cass township farmer, were held at Union church, Cedar Bluff, March 2 with the Rev. Dean Swartzendruber officiating. Burial was in Shawver cemetery at Cedar Bluff.

Pallbearers were Steven Gilliatt, James and Charles Heinsius, Michael Achenbach, Robert Dvorsky and Richard Wilson. Mildred Suchomel and Mrs. Phillip Krouth were in charge of flowers.

Mr. Achenbach died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, following a short illness Feb. 26.

The son of Lewis and Elizabeth Zerbe Achenbach, he was born Feb. 10, 1886 near Cedar Bluff and was educated in the rural schools of Cedar county. He was married to Ethel M. Sproston at Marion Feb. 28, 1916.

A lifetime resident of the Cedar Bluff area, he was a retired farmer.

He is survived by his wife, 2 sons, Andrew, North English and Richard, West Liberty; 4 daughters, Mrs. Delbert (Ada) Simmons, Olin; Mrs. Ernest (Naomi) Dvosky, Coralville; Mrs. Robert (Esther Jean) Gilliatt, Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Mervyn (Norma) Long, Swisher; 26 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, 6 brothers and 4 sisters.
