Final rites for Mrs. Bertha Skaggs, 92, former owner of the Bennett hotel, were held at the Sheets and Son funeral home in Tipton March 1 with burial in Inland cemetery. The Rev. Eugene Miller was in charge of the services.

Pallbearers were Siegfried Petersen, Tom Johnson, Norman and Jerry Regennitter, Elmer McQuillen and Ernest Wendel. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist.

Mrs. Skaggs died at the Utopia Nursing home in Tipton following an extended illness.

The daughter of Benjamin F. and Sarah White Toms, she was born at Nichols where she received her education. She was married to Martin Doan Skaggs at Bennett Feb. 9, 1909. He preceded her in death in 1945. For a time they operated the Bennett hotel.

Mrs. Skaggs was of the Methodist faith.

She is survived by a niece, Mrs. Dorothy Regennitter, Tipton and a nephew, A. E. Toms, Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her husband and 3 brothers.
