31 March 1911 - The Lowden News

James Clemmens died at his home four miles south of Lowden yesterday morning of pneumonia at the age of 73 years, having been sick only since Sunday. Funeral will be held tomorrow, Saturday, with services at 10:30 o'clock a.m. at the house. The remains will then be taken to Clarence and buried in the Clarence cemetery. We will bring a more complete obituary next week.

James Clemmens died at his home four miles south of Lowden March 30, 1911, of pneumonia at the age of 73 years.

He was born in Ireland in 1837, came to Pittsburg, Pa., in 1860, remained there till 1869 when he came to Iowa, has lived in vicinity of Lowden up to the time of his death.

He was married to Miss Anna Margaret Deininger. eleven children were born to them, 3 of whom died in their infancy. His sorrowing widow and eight children, four sons and four daughters, survive to mourn his death, namely, John, Jerome, Fred of Tipton, and Francis of Lowden, Mrs. Martin Schoff, Mrs. Arthur Hopkins, Mrs. Samuel Kinney of Lowden and Mrs. Geo. Shriver of Clarence; there also survive Mr. Clemmens four sons-in-law and four daughters-in-law and twenty-four grandchildren all of whom were present at the funeral.

Mr. Clemmens was a kind and loving husband and father, a good citizen, an honest and upright man and his friends were many.

The funeral was held Saturday with services at the house and interment in the Clarence cemetery, Rev. Peter Bock of Clarence officiating and Fred Conrad, Conrad Miller, Fred Von Roden, C. G. Muesing, C. L. McClellan and Henry Wilkening were the pall bearers.
