21 April 1932 - The Tipton Advertiser

The many friends of Mrs. Bess Cosgriff were grieved to hear of her death last Wednesday, April 13, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, following the birth of a baby son.

Mrs. Cosgriff was a daughter of the late Patrick and Mary Phelan, pioneer citizens of Omaha, Neb., where she was born August 15, 1895, and was educated at St. Cecelia's Academy there. She was married to Harold Cosgriff at St. Mary's Cathedral in Lincoln, Neb. May 25, 1918.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic church, Tipton, with Rev. M. Moriarty officiating. Requiem High Mass was sung by St. Mary's choir. The church was crowded to its capacity. People of all denominations were present, showing the universal esteem in which she was held. In his sermon the Rev. Moriarty spoke of the many splendid traits of the deceased, told how she would be sadly missed in her home and in the church where she was such an active member. We will all miss her, he said "but God has taken the fairest rose to adorn His home. The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken, blessed be the name of the Lord. Let us pray for the dear sorrowing friends and let us pray to God to have mercy upon her soul."

Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery, Tipton.

Mourning are her husband and four children, Dorothea, Dick, Bobbie and baby Danny; two sisters Marie and Pearl of Omaha; two brothers, Will of St. Joseph, Mo. and John of Kansas City.
