Final rites for John Henry Laing, 52, were held at the Sheets and Son funeral home Jan. 3 with the Rev. E. H. Lauer officiating. Burial was in Red Oak cemetery. The Garey-Whalen post of the American Legion presented the flag at the graveside.

Pallbearers were Darrell, Harold Michael and Robert Laing, Donald Schroeder, Ronald Emrich and Herbert Jennings. George Thordsen was vocalist and Debra Wulf was organist. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Crock and Mrs. Daisy Satterfield were in charge of flowers.

Mr. Laing died unexpectedly at his farm home north of Tipton Dec. 31.

The son of James Robert and Lilly Lloyd Marker Laing, he was born near Tipton Nov. 26, 1919 and attended the Tipton schools. He was married to Marie Ardith Buck at the Red Oak church May 25, 1949.

He spent his life in the Tipton area and was a farmer.

He was a member of the Red Oak Presbyterian church and the VFW post 2537 in Tipton. He served as a sergeant in the army during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, 3 daughters, Barbara, Mary Lou and Jean, all at home; 4 sons, Merlin, Danny, Larry and Ronald, all at home; a sister, Mrs. Mary Schroeder, Tipton and 5 brothers, James, George and Mearl, all of Tipton; Earl, West Branch and Harold, Clarence.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and a sister.
