26 January 1912 - The Lowden News

Mrs. Hulda Bartheld of Bennett, wife of Wm. F. Bartheld, died Sunday morning at 3:30 o'clock, at a Davenport hospital after a short illness, aged 31 years, 10 months and 19 days.

Mrs. Bartheld left for Lansing, Ia., a few weeks ago to look after some business matters for her husband, and when she left she already had a bad cold. She intended to stay but a couple of days, but when she did not return home as intended, Mr. Bartheld became uneasy and left for that place to see about her. On his arrival he found she was and had been quite sick. He however managed to get her as far as Davenport where a physician suggested it best to leave her at a hospital as she was not strong enough to stand the trip home to Bennett. She remained in a serious condition for several days, when she finally died, leaving besides her husband, three children, Hazel age 8 years, Floyd 7 years and Lyle 5 years. She is also survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Engelhorn, two sisters and five brothers of Church Ferry, N.D.

Hulda Barthheld was born March 2, 1880, in Lansing, Ia., and when fifteen years of age moved with her parents to Church Ferry, N.D., where she was united in marriage September 10, 1901, to William F. Bartheld. Shortly after their marriage they came to Bennett where they have resided ever since, Mr. Bartheld being a brakeman for the R.I. on the Clinton run here.

The body was sent to Lansing, Ia., accompanied by her husband, three children, her brother and her sister-in-law. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the home in Lansing. Interment was made in the family lot in Oakhill cemetery in Lansing.

On receiving word over the phone that Mrs. Bartheld had died, her three little children were taken to Davenport Sunday afternoon by John Vaughn; others that went from here were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dettmann. Many beautiful floral pieces were given to the deceased by her many Bennett friends. Both Mr. and Mrs. Bartheld had many friends in Bennett who deeply sympathize with the bereaved husband and children over the loss of the dear wife and mother.
