Herbert E. Behrens, son of Mrs. E. J. Behrens of Lowden, was born Dec. 23, 1900 at Lost Nation and died Oct. 15, 1945, at the age of 44 years, 9 months and 23 days.

He moved with his parents to Lowden when he was three years old. After graduating from the Lowden schools he helped his father farm until his marriage to Margaret Robinson of Clarence, Aug. 23, 1919. The young couple moved to Stanwood and established their new home. Two daughters, Arlene and Joyce were born to bless the home.

Herb was in the feed and elevator business in Stanwood for 18 years. He was a member of the Methodist church, also a member of the official board and taught Sunday school for several years. He belonged to the Stanwood fire department and the Modern Woodmen.

Surviving are his wife Margaret, two daughters, Arlene and Joyce; 5 brothers, Charles of Montana, Frank of Meridian, Ia., Ernest of Clarence, Alvin of Wilton and Walter of Lowden; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Drager of Tipton, and Mrs. Mae Meier of Lowden. His father preceded him in death three years ago, and two sisters died in infancy.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church in Stanwood with Rev. Earl Hodgkins and Rev. Strait officiating. Burial was in the Stanwood cemetery.
