Funeral services for Mrs. Charles (Alice H.) Barnes, 91, were held at Janesville, Minn. United Methodist church Oct. 11, 1989 with burial in the Van Horn cemetery, Lowden Oct. 12. Mrs. Barnes died at the Lake Shore Inn Nursing Home, Waseca, Minn. Oct. 8.

The daughter of Fred and Viola White Harding, she was born in Adrian, Minn. July 18, 1898. She graduated from high school, attended Normal college, Valley City, N.D. and then taught school in Dodge, N. D. for 2 years.

She married Charles Barnes in Mandan, N. D. Feb. 7, 1920. They homesteaded a ranch in Burlington county, N. D. for a year and then moved to Lowden where her husband was a blacksmith for many years. She continued to live in Lowden until 1982 when she moved to Janesville to live with her daughter, Ruth and her husband in Janesville.

She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Wheatland and a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Lowden.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Lyle (Ruth) Peterson, Janesville and Viola Hanson, Blaine, Ohio; 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a sister, Agnes Satissky, Walla Walla, Wash. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, a sister and a brother.
