Mary Ann Skinner was born in Bedford, Bedfordshire, England, July 19, 1863, and died at the Agatha hospital at Clinton, Iowa, August 1, having reached the age of 47 years and 28 days.

She moved with her parents to this country during the year 1870, where they located temporarily at Morengo, Ills. In 1874 they moved to Lowden and she resided in this vicinity until the time of her marriage to Albert F. Barnes, December 19, 1882.

After their marriage their home was made in or near Cedar county with the exception of three years spent in Pennsylvania and three years in northern Iowa.

To their union three children were born: Robert A. Barnes of Rapid City, S.D.; Mattie A. Barnes and Charles N. Barnes of Massillon. These together with her husband, A. F. Barnes, her mother, Mrs. J. Skinner, of Fayette, Iowa, her sisters and brothers, Mrs. F. B. Curtis of Tipton, Mrs. E. S. Thomas of Fayette, Mrs. J. B. Thomas of Dubuque, S. A. Skinner of Redlands, Calif., John J. Skinner of Lexington, Mo., survive to mourn their loss.
