Graveside rites for Henry George (Harry) Lord, 81, including Masonic and Legion services, were held at Rose Hill cemetery at Mechanicsville July 30 after funeral rites were held in the Lorimor Baptist church July 29 with the Rev. Ferguson officiating.

Mr. Lord, a resident of Mechanicsville for many years where he was employed as a printer, died in a Des Moines hospital July 26, following a long illness.

The son of George and Alexina White Lord, he was born at Green Farm, Slimbridge, Gloucestershire, England June 28, 1892. He received his education at Sir Thomas Richie's school at Glouchester.

He served in the British army during World War I, including service in France, Egypt, the Dardanelles and Syria from 1914 to 1919.

As a young man he was a farmer. He came to the United States in 1921 and learned the printing trade at Lorimor. Later he purchased the Lorimor Journal in 1922. He was publisher there until the early 1940's.

He came to Mechanicsville as a printer for the Pioneer Press and Stanwood Herald and returned to Lorimor in 1961. He served as mayor of Lorimor for 6 years and during his 3 terms water and gas was brought to the community, greatly through his efforts and determination. A water tower in Lorimor was dedicated to him for his untiring work.

He was married to Minnie Mallett Dec. 23, 1923 at Burlington, Colo.

He was a 50 year member of the Masonic lodge, American Legion, Church of England and the MWA lodge.

Mr. Lord is survived by 3 children, Mrs. Ralph (Alexina) Edwards, Albia; Mrs. Allen (Naida) Hormann, Marion and Ivor B., Lisbon; 4 sisters living in England, a brother, Wilfred, Perry; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1960.
