28 June 1945 - The Tipton Advertiser

Rev. Max Geissler of Trinity Lutheran church of Tipton was in charge of the funeral service at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon at the McCormick funeral home, for Mrs. Samuel R. Thomas, who passed away June 19.

Mary Jane Jennings, the eldest daughter of John R. and Elizabeth Jennings, was born January 1, 1881, at Lebanon, Mo. When the mother died in 1885, the child stayed with relatives near Lebanon.

She was received into the membership of the Baptist church when she was baptized in August, 1901. On January 29, 1902, she was united in marriage to Samuel Robert Thomas and to this union were born two children, Rutha and Earl.

In 1914 the family moved to Iowa but returned to Missouri after two years. In 1919 they established a home at Olin, Iowa, and then moved to Tipton in 1924 where they have since made their residence.

Mrs. Thomas passed away Tuesday evening June 19, having arrived at the age of 64 years, 5 mo. and 18 days. Those who survive to mourn her passing are her husband, her daughter Rutha, son Earl, three grandchildren, Samuel, Joseph and Susan Thomas, all of Tipton; also a brother, John Wesley Jennings, and nephew, Everett Jennings, of Denver, Colorado.

She was devoted to her family, and was a lover of flowers for which she cared while she could.

Flowers are God's thoughts of beauty, taking form to gladden mortal gaze; bright gems of earth in which, perchance, she saw what Eden was--what Paradise may be.
