Stanwood - Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the United Presbyterian church for Edward Gruber, 91, who died July 7 at Utopia Nursing home Tipton.

Rev. James Elvig was in charge of the service. Mrs. John Swift sang, accompanied by Mrs. Ed Davidson.

Carl Haesemeyer, Wm. Horr, Marvin Rohwedder, Glenn Tenley, Paul Portewig and John Cain were pall bearers. Burial was in the Stanwood cemetery.

Edward Gruber was born June 1, 1873 at Germantown, Ohio. As a young man of 19 he came to Iowa. He worked as a farm hand for a time, later operated the Stanwood Hotel and a restaurant in the present Ropa building.

He was custodian of the Stanwood schools for 23 years, retiring at the age of 81.

He married Sarah Jane Ernest, June 15, 1910 at Stanwood. Two children were born to them, Vincent, Bremmerton, Washington; and Mrs. W. A. (Marjorie) Blackwell, Stratford, Conn.

Following the death of his wife in 1954 he made his home with his daughter until November of 1963 when he came to the Utopia Rest Home in Tipton.

He is survived by his children, one sister, Mrs. Sarah Moneypenny of Olin two grandsons and a step-grandson of Bremerton.
