Funeral services for Max Banks, 52, former Cedar county auditor and automobile dealer were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Church of Christ with the Rev. E. H. Lauer officiating. Sheets and Son funeral home were in charge of the services.

Pallbearers were Don Davidson, D. A. Donohue, Bill Hobstetter, Wayne Miller, Edward Kemp and Raymond Puffer. Mrs. D. A. Donohue, Mrs. Edward Kemp, Mrs. Don Davidson and Mrs. Wayne Miller were in charge of flowers.

Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery. Friends may make memorial contributions to the church of their choice.

Mr. Banks died Oct. 17 at University hospitals in Iowa City following several years of illness.

The son of Dr. C. H. and Ada Applegate Banks, he was born at Tipton Aug. 1, 1912 and graduated from Tipton high school and junior college and attended the University of Iowa.

He was married to Luella Gesme in Minnesota, March 10, 1935.

He served as Cedar county auditor for 2 terms. He was first elected in 1942 and was re-elected to office while serving in the navy, with A. W. Kemmann as acting auditor during his absence. He finished out his second term after his discharge from the navy. His military service was from Jan. 27, 1944 to Feb. 10, 1946 and he was discharged as a storekeeper, second class.

Mr. Banks was an automobile dealer in Tipton and Mechanicsville, living for 6 years in Mechanicsville. His last agency was that of Pontiac dealer in Tipton. He worked for Thoresen Chevrolet and Oldsmobile until his final illness.

He was a member of the Mechanicsville Masonic lodge and the Tipton post of the American Legion.

He is survived by his parents, his wife, a son, Joel, Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Sharon) Dauber, Pacific Beach, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Virginia Hetzer, Muscatine, 3 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert.
