Mechanicsville - John Nie, a longtime businessman here, died at Hillcrest Country Club, Mt. Vernon, Thursday afternoon while watching the world series on television.

Mr. Nie collapsed and died almost instantly of an apparent heart attack. No further details were available at this time.

Mechanicsville - Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 18 for John Herman Nie, 63, at 2:30 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor George Gallaher officiating.

Mrs. Leroy Wendt was soloist accompanied by Mrs. E. H. Littig.

Mr. Nie died at the Country Club, Mt. Vernon, Thursday afternoon of a heart attack while watching the world series ball game on television.

John Herman Nie was born the son of Nicholis and Anna May Nie on February 20, 1901 and received his education in the Urbana School. He was married to Lillian King on June 5, 1919 in Marion.

Mr. Nie was an elder in the Presbyterian church, a member of the Masonic Lodge, President of the Citizens' Committee and was past president of the Iowa Grain and Feed Dealers Association.

He has been in the grain business for many year first with the Blairstown Grain from 1923 to 1925, Clarence Co-op Lumber and Grain from 1925 to 1936 and with the Nie Grain and Feed Co. Inc. since 1936.

Mr. Nie was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian; his daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Nancy) Parker, Shreveport, La.; grandchildren, Julie, Jeff and John.

Also surviving are a brother, Charles of Mechanicsville and sisters, Mrs. William (Mary) Kuhn, Walker and Mrs. Albert (Kate) Kiersey, Calif.

Honorary pallbearers were L. J. Paulson, H. J. Maurer, F. M. Wilson, F. M. Thomson, Haskell Sargent and Everett Ferguson.

Pallbearers were Hugh Lamont, Gorman Robinson, Don Davidson, Floyd Siver, Cecil A. Smay and James High.

Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery with Horner Funeral Home in charge.
