Stanwood - Mrs. Martha Pruess, 77, died in her home in Stanwood, Sunday at 1:30 p.m. following a long illness. She was a resident of the Stanwood community for the past 22 years.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 19, at 1:30 p.m. in St. John's United Church of Christ, Clarence, with Rev. Lloyd Dutro, Olin, officiating with services in charge of Chapman Funeral Home, Clarence.

Mrs. Charles Moffit and Mrs. Folker Janssen were in charge of flowers.

Martha Wilhelmina Rixe was born the daughter of Fred and Mary Dettman Rixe, Lowden, on October 14, 1886. She was married to William Pruess in Lowden on February 9, 1911. They were the parents of four children.

Mrs. Pruess was a member of St. John's Church, Clarence, and of the Ladies Guild.

She is survived by a son, Melvin Pruess, Olin; a daughter, Mrs. Lorna Merlo, Stanwood; three grandchildren and a brother, Hugo Rixe, Tipton.

Her husband, a son, a daughter, five sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

Harlan Rixe, Carl Kleppe, Joey Pruess, Harlan Pruess, Milford Pruess and Harold Oldorf were the pallbearers. Burial was in the Clarence Cemetery.
