8 April 1910 - The Lowden News

Warren Smith, the 13 years and 6 months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith, and a student of the Tipton high school, was accidently shot and killed at the home of Henry Vitense while he and several other boys grabbed for a gun with which to shoot a crow which they had discovered on a nest in a tree, about 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The boys were at the Vitense home, while the rest of the family were away from home.

Several of the boys scuffled over the rifle when they discovered the crow and while it was in the hands of the Vitense boy it was accidentally discharged and the shot passed through the back and pierced the heart of the Smith boy, causing instant death. These were the facts brought out at the inquest of the coroner's jury held late Sunday afternoon. No one was blamed for the accident.

Besides his parents, the deceased leaves two sisters. The family reside about a mile east of Tipton.
