31 March 1932 - The Tipton Advertiser

Cedar Bluff lost another of her old-time residents in the passing of Mrs. August Schutt early Easter morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alex Achenbach, where she had been tenderly cared for the last few years.

As Johanna Christine Kahler she was born December 10th, 1842, in Hamburg, Germany, one of a family of four children born to Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Kahler. Her early life was spent in Germany, where on August 9, 1868, she was united in marriage with August Schutt, and to this union were born seven children. Mr. and Mrs. Schutt came to America May 3, 1873. Locating for a time in Chicago they finally came to Iowa about fifty-three years ago and settled at Cedar Bluff, then known as Gower's Ferry, where Mr. Schutt passed away on March 31, 1915. Mrs. Schutt was well and favorably known in her home community always lending a helping hand to the needy, until about fifteen years ago when her health began to fail.

Those left to mourn her passing are one son, August Schutt of Cedar Bluff and one daughter Mary, wife of Alex Achenbach of Cedar Bluff, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Van Buren of Tipton at the Cedar Bluff church at 2 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon, with interment in the Cedar Bluff cemetery.
