19 September 1919 - The Lowden News

August William Charles Peters was born December 29, 1849 in a village in Pommeronia, Germany, where he lived until 1883. In that year he was united in marriage with Miss Augusta Dau. Shortly after their marriage they decided to emigrate to America. In the fall of 1883 they arrived here at Lowden where they established their permanent home. Their marriage union was blessed with one child, a daughter, who died in infancy. For some years the deceased worked for the C. & N. W. Railway Co. as section laborer, until in 1904 he met with an accident that disabled him for further work. In recognition of efficient and faithful work the railroad company granted him an annual pension. A paralytic stroke, which he sustained a few years later, made him an helpless invalid. His faithful wife nursed him until her death in 1917; then his nieces, Mrs. Peter Ehlers and her husband took care of him until he died on Wednesday, Sept. 10th. He attained to an age of 69 years, 8 months and 11 days. The nearest relatives who mourn over his departure are 2 brothers, William Peters of Fargo, Mich. and Henry Peters in Germany and one sister, Mrs. Sophie Buck of Bloomington, Ill.

The funeral services were held at Zion's Evangelical church on Sunday afternoon with interment in Van Horn cemetery. Rev. P. V. Dyck officiating. As pallbearer served Messrs. J. J. Kahl, John Burmeister, Joe Burmeister, R. Breuer, C. Esbaum and C. Miller.
