Mrs. Petersen was born Sept. 3d, 1840, at Melle Hannover, Germany. She was married to Emil Petersen May 17, 1865, in New York City, and soon after they came to Lowden. They moved to Chicago to complete the education of their children, and again returned to Lowden in 1896. Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Petersen during the period of their happy union. Twice before death shadowed their threshold, taking each time a child in early age, at times of which and in all other sorrow, trials, troubles and burdens in life, the husband and wife consoled one another in all afflictions, and on the other hand, they also shared all hopes and joys in mutual happiness, especially in their beautiful and happy home. And in the blessed possession their remaining children, namely: Hugo T. Petersen, Miss Frieda Petersen and Mrs. Martha Andresen, wife of John Andresen, who now survive, and with their father, the bereaved husband are left to share his sorrows and to mourn the demise of their dear departed.

Mrs. Petersen was the possessor of a noble character, and of a kind and good heart. She was highly endowed with benevolence and was very sympathetic. Her sunny nature brightened the lives of those around her.

"The mother is the Angel Spirit of Home."
"There was no velvet so soft as a mother's lap, no roses so lovely as her smile, no path so flowery as that imprinted with her foot steps."
