Mrs. Elizabeth Penningroth, esteemed pioneer resident of Cedar county, passed away at her late home Thursday, June 5, at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 22 days. She had been in frail health for the past several months.

Memorial services were held Sunday, June 8, at the Red Oak Grove Presbyterian church at 2 o'clock with U. J. Fike officiating, preceded by a prayer service at the Peterseim funeral home. Interment was in the Red Oak Grove cemetery. At her request, casketbearers were six sons.

Mrs. William Penningroth, nee Henrietta Elizabeth Mensendick, was born April 13, 1868, at Sutter, Ill., and passed away June 5, 1952, at her home in Tipton, her husband preceding her eleven years ago. To them were born ten children: Charles of Cedar Rapids, Martha (Mrs. August Eiler) of Tipton, Louis P. of Iowa City, Walter, deceased in 1947, Edward of Tipton, Benjamin of Tipton, Bertha deceased while in high school, Ernest, dying in infancy, Paul of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Harold of Whitney Point, New York. Twenty-four grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, one sister, three brothers and an number of nieces and nephews also survive her.

Mr. and Mrs. Penningroth started to farm north of Tipton in 1884 where they remained, with the exception of an interval of a few years, until 1941. For the past 8 years, Mrs. Penningroth has resided in Tipton. She was a member of Red Oak Grove Presbyterian church and a charter member of the Red Oak Circle of Kings' Daughters.

Arrangements were in charge of the Peterseim funeral home.
