Last rites for Wilfred L. Niermeyer, 80, retired farmer, were held at Zion United Church of Christ, Lowden, Nov. 9 with the Rev. Paul Jordan officiating. Burial was in the Van Horn cemetery. Pallbearers were William Stout, Leon Mensing, Roy Mowry, Ray Licht, Albert Davidson and Elmer Meyer. Leona Helmold was organist and the Muhs Brothers sang.

Mr. Niermeyer died at the Jackson County Public hospital, Maquoketa, Nov. 6.

The son of William and Anna Strackbein Niermeyer, he was born at Lowden Jan. 14, 1907 and spent his life in the Lowden area.

He was a member of the board of directors of the American Trust and Savings bank, Lowden for 31 years, was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and served as treasurer of the church for many years, retiring in 1985 and was a member of the Lowden Lions club.

He is survived by 2 brothers, Erwin, Clarence and Henry, Lowden; a stepsister, Emogene Conrad, Lowden and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a stepbrother.
