Mechanicsville - Funeral services were held for Dale Whitman, 49, at the Horner Funeral Home Monday at 10 a.m., with Rev. James Nelson, officiating.

Mr. Whitman died in Mechanicsville, Sept. 9, after suffering a heart attack.

Dale Arbingast Whitman was born Dec. 5, 1916 in Linn County, the son of Frank and Lois Whitman.

He received his education in the Lisbon schools. Whitman entered the navy on March 12, 1937 and served as coxswain until June 7, 1941. He was a member of the Trinity Methodist church, Cedar Rapids, Ia., and a member of Patmos Lodge No. 155, A.F. & A.M., Mechanicsville. He was a route salesman for a candy company.

Survivors include a son, Darryl Adee Whitman, Cedar Rapids; his parents and four sisters, Mrs. Norman (Marjorie) Williams and Mrs. William (Velna) Owens, Mechanicsville; Mrs. Richard (Wilma) Tvedt, Whittier, Calif.; and Mrs. Jerry (Joan) Hatcher, Alamogordo, N. Mex.

Wayne Clark, Irvin Clark, Clair Whitman, Ralph Burge, Oliver Clark and Howard Clark were pallbearers. Burial was in the Lisbon cemetery.
