28 January 1910 - The Lowden News

Dorothea Maria Meier, nee Wendt, who died here last Thursday at the home of her son, F. C. Meier, was born on October 21st, 1822, at Gerdau, near Ebstorf Province Hannover, Germany. She was united in marriage with Gottfried Meier. To this union were born three sons and two daughters. Two of the sons died in childhood. Her husband also preceded Mrs. Meier to the better world, he died in 1900.

Deceased and family came to America in 1856. They resided for the first ten years in DuPage county, Illinois, and came to Lowden in 1866, and soon after bought the farm in Massillon township, about a mile north of Lowden, where she resided until little over a year ago, then her son, F. C. Meier, and family moved here and brought his mother with them. Let it be said right here, that they gave "Mother" Meier the best of care during her old age and period of infirmities.

Mrs. Meier during her many years of active life was very industrious. She was a good old lady, a good Christian and a regular attendant at church, while she was yet in control of her mental faculties. However a few years ago her mind began to weaken and finally all of her mental faculties had left her; however during all this time, she retained good bodily health up to four or five days before her death, when she took sick. She died last Thursday of heart and liver trouble at the advanced age of eighty-seven years and three months.

Funeral was held Sunday with services at the Lutheran church, Rev. J. H. Brammer officiated. The pall bearers were Henry Licht Sr., Henry Hinricks, Ernst Hoffmeier, William Lietz, Chas. Kromer Sr. and Henry Bockelmann. They laid "Mother" Meier to rest at the Lutheran cemetery. Friede Ihrer Asche.
