Havey E. Martin Fatally Injured In Farm Accident

Havey Martin of near Bennett, was the victim of a fatal farm accident a few days ago. He was fixing a corn elevator when the machine fell on him, crushing his head and face. He was taken to Mercy hospital in Davenport and passed away there at 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday. He was born Dec. 28, 1897, at Macomb, Ill.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Bennett Methodist church, the Rev. Jerry Wolcott officiating. Interment will be made in Tipton Masonic cemetery with Masonic burial service at the graveside.

He was a Past Master of Cedar Lodge No. 11, in Tipton.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Carol Eleanor, a son Geo. Edward, at home; his father J. E. Martin, of Tennessee, Ill.; a brother Hansell at Macomb, a brother Herschel of Bennett, a sister, Hesta of East Moline, and 2 half sisters of Bennett community.

Havey Elmo Martin, was born December 28, 1897, in McComb, Ill., son of Sarah and Jerimiah Martin. He entered life eternal at Mercy hospital, Davenport, Iowa, October 21, 1952.

He attended school at McDonough county in Illinois. In 1917 his family moved to Littleton, Ill., on a farm. There he joined the Baptist church and became very active and was superintendent of the Sunday school for a number of years. He came to the Bennett community 15 years ago where he was employed on different farms.

On March 12, 1940, he was united in marriage to Miss Eleanor Elizabeth Blair at the Bennett Methodist church. To this union two children were born, one daughter Carrol Ellen Martin, one son George Edward both at home.

In April 1940 he joined the Methodist church in Bennett where he was superintendent of the Sunday school and very active in church work until his death. The deceased served as a director on the school board of the Bennett Consolidated school for five years.

He was also a member of the Tipton Masonic lodge and the Past Master initiation team. He participated in all community affairs, always willing to help anyone he could. He was a kind and loving husband and was always thinking of his family before himself.

He is survived by his wife, two children, his father J. E. Martin of Tennessee, Ill., a brother Hansel Martin of McComb, Ill., a brother Herschel Martin of Bennett, a sister Hesta More, East Moline, Ill., and two half sisters Esta and Edna.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Oct. 23, 1952, at the Methodist church in Bennett with Rev. Jerry Wolcott officiating and Tipton Masonic ledge conducted their ritualistic service at the graveside. Burial was made in Tipton Masonic cemetery.
