24 July 1908 - The Lowden News

Lavisa E. Moore was born in Massachusetts, July 31, 1824, and died at Lowden, Ia., Tuesday, July 21, 1908, aged 83 years, 11 months and 21 days. Her father, Harley Moore, was born in Massachusetts, and her mother, Annie Hoskins, in Conn. They came to Iowa, and Cedar Co. on Oct. 9, 1854, residing near Lowden, and since 1880 they have lived here in town. She died in the very house and the very room that her mother did in 1887. She leaves to mourn her loss one brother, Henry Moore, and four sisters, Mrs. Caroline Cook, of Tweed, Kan., Mrs. Charity Henry, of Tipton, Ia., Mrs. Lydia Swarn, of Glidden, Ia., and Mrs. Harriet Barr, of Tweed, Kan. There were originally eleven children in the family and Lavisa was the oldest of the living children. She joined the Methodist church under Rev. Wm. Leiser.

Aunt Lavisa, as she was familiarly known, was of a quiet retiring disposition of great patience and very faithful. She was fond of children and they of her. She retained her strength of mind and spirit in a remarkable degree even until the last. Though suffering intensely, she did not complain, but bore it meekly and patiently.

The funeral was held Thursday morning, July 23, conducted by Rev. T. P. Potter of Centre Junction, assisted by Rev. S. V. Williams of this city. Quite a number of neighbors, friends and relatives gathered to pay their last respects to one who has been well known in the community for so many years.
