5 February 1909 - The Lowden News

Heinrich Hack was born at Nienburg, Amt Lauenburg, Schleswig Holstein, Germany, on Oct. 9th, 1846. He was married to his now sorrowing widow in 1876. They came with their children to America in 1884. In the spring of 1908 Mr. Hack suffered from a stroke of paralysis, it was followed by several light strokes from time to time. On Monday, Feb. 1, 1909, another hard stroke caused death within about 15 minutes. Mr. Hack died at the age of sixty-two years, three months and twenty-two days. Besides his widow he leaves to mourn his sudden demise two sons, one daughter-in-law, two grandchildren and many other near relatives.

When deceased and his family came to America they came direct to Iowa and this vicinity, residing first a few years at South Prairie, then for a couple of years northwest of Lowden, and later they moved to northwest of Massillon, and have now for a number of years resided on and owned the farm they bought of C. L. Kieth. At this their late home Mr. Hack died.

Mr. Hack was a sturdy farmer, who by hard work and careful management, had become well-to-do. He was a quiet and peaceful neighbor and a good citizen. He was a member of the Lowden Krieger Verein, whose membership was well represented at the funeral.

The funeral was held Wednesday with services at the church at Massillon and interment in the Massillon cemetery. Rev. Werning officiated. Henry Edler, Louis Harmel, Henry Busch, Louis Strackbein, Wm. Boettger and Peter Muhs were the pallbearers.

No physician had been in attendance, as Mr. Hack's demise came so sudden, and as no death certificate had otherwise been issued, which was needed for burial, Coroner A. M. McCormick of Tipton was called, and found the cause of death as above stated.
