26 February 1909 - The Lowden News

Chris Hafemeister was born in Mecklinberg, Germany, Sept. 22, 1836, and died at his home in Clarence, Thursday, Feb. 18, 1909 of paralysis. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Bielefeldt in 1863 and they came to America in 1866, coming direct to Cedar county, Iowa, where they have since resided. Thus by this death Cedar county loses another honored old settler. Mr. Hafemeister is survived by his wife, one son and four daughters, who are: Ernest Hafemeister of Clarence, Mrs. Anna Iler of Robinson, Kansas, Mrs. Amelia Burns of Omaha, Mrs. Winnie Willey of Staunton, Ill., and Mrs. Elizabeth McLeod of Julesburg, Colo. Another child died in infancy. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at the German Evangelical church and was conducted by Rev. C. Schulmeistrat. Burial took place in the German cemetery.

All the children were able to be present at the funeral except Mrs. McLeod.
