Funeral services were held Dec. 18 at the Chapman Funeral home, Clarence, for Mrs. Margaret Sylvester, 96, with Gordon Smith officiating. Burial was in the Clarence cemetery. Mrs. Robert Hasselbusch was organist.

Mrs. Sylvester died Dec. 16 at the Mt. Vernon Nursing home, where she had been since 1962. She was born Dec. 6, 1871, the daughter of John and Margaret Ferguson Greig, at the farm home near Clarence. She attended the Clarence schools and Normal college at Cedar Falls and later taught in rural schools and the Clarence school.

Mrs. Sylvester and George Sylvester were married in Clarence October, 1903. They farmed until 1928, when they retired and moved to town. Mr. Sylvester died in 1953.

She was a member of the Presbyterian church, the Clarence Wednesday Literary club and a long time secretary of the Clarence Cemetery association.

Survivors include 2 nieces, Isabel Hoyman, Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Alberta Read, Minneapolis, Minn. and 2 nephews, Dr. William G. Hoyman, Grandview, Wash. and Durwood Greig, Clarence.
