Last rites for Avery W. Steele, 85, Mt. Vernon were held Dec. 7 with burial in Red Oak cemetery. Mr. Steele died Dec. 4 at his home in Mt. Vernon, following a long illness.

The son of George and Martha Steele, he was born in Cedar county and was educated in the Tipton schools. He was married to Laura B. Moreland in Mechanicsville Feb. 10, 1910.

He farmed in Cedar county until he retired and moved to Mt. Vernon.

He is survived by his wife.
