Final rites for Luther James Ailey, 79, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the Sheets and Son Funeral home with the Rev. Eugene Miller officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Mr. Ailey died at his home in Tipton Feb. 3 following a heart attack.

Pallbearers were Vernon Beckmann, Marvin Mallie, William Driscoll, Norman Davisson, Parker Burroughs and Charles Kofron. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Driscoll and Mrs. Marvin Mallie were in charge of flowers. Mrs. Irma Crawford was the organist.

The son of Jacob and Margaret Swanson Ailey, he was born at Dandridge, Tenn. May 30, 1887 and was educated in the rural Dandridge schools. He was married to Cora Perry at Jacksonville, Ill. Jan. 27, 1914.

A resident of Cedar county since 1914, he had been a farmer until 1958 when he retired. Since then he had worked for the Hargrave Implement company.

He is survived by his wife; 5 sons, Paul, Houston, Texas; Harry, Brownsville, Texas; Melvin, Richmond, Calif.; DeWayne, Tipton and Raymond, with the Air Force in Turkey and a daughter, Mrs. William (Frances) Brumley, San Antonio, Texas and 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and a sister.
