George Garey, Resident Pioneer, Dies At Home Today

Mr. George Garey, pioneer resident of Tipton and Cedar county, passed away at his home in this city this Thursday morning, Nov. 8th, following an illness of several weeks part of which time was spent in the hospital.

Mr. Garey was born in Bedford county, Maryland, July 3, 1858, and when five years of age came with his parents to Cedar County, Iowa.

He was married in 1884 to Miss Lucy Culver, and for many years they were enterprising farmers in the county. He is survived by one son, John Garey; another son Charles having been killed in World War I, and his memory honored by Garey-Whalen Legion Post of Tipton which bears his name; a daughter Blanche passed away a number of years ago, and his wife has also preceded him to the realm of eternity.

Funeral service will be held at the Wilson funeral home, Saturday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock, with burial in the Masonic cemetery near Tipton. More extended obituary notice will be published next week.
