Last rites for Mrs. Martha Shaffer, 75, were held Oct. 23 at St. Mary church with the Rev. Clifford Egert celebrating the requiem low mass. Burial was in St. Mary cemetery.

Pallbearers were Albert, Clarence, William and John Shaffer, David Vance and Robert Coffin. Mrs. Reno Droll was organist.

Mrs. Shaffer died at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, Oct. 18 following a brief illness.

Martha Josephine, daughter of John and Annie Bowman Whalen, was born in Tipton Jan. 14, 1892 and was educated in the Tipton schools. She was married to William Shaffer at Rock Island, Ill. Aug. 21, 1911 and spent her life in the Tipton community.

She was a member of St. Mary church, the Cedar Rebekah lodge and a past president of the Women's Relief corps.

She is survived by 4 sons, Albert, Tipton; Clarence (Skip), Lansdale, Penn.; William (Jim), Binghamton, N.Y.; 2 daughters, Mrs. Robert (Verlene) Coffin, Dvenport and Mrs. David (Jean) Vance, Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1950, 6 brothers and 4 sisters.
