Mechanicsville - Funeral services for Mrs. Harlan Russell, 73, will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at the Mechanicsville Presbyterian church with the Rev. William Wills and the Rev. Lloyd Dutro officiating.

Mrs. Russell died Tuesday at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness.

Burial will be at White Oak cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dr. F. M. Wilson, Howard Rhoads, Arthur Siver, Narvis Robinson, Richard C. Smith and John Kuntz. Leo Frederick, Lisbon, will be vocalist. Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A Mechanicsville resident since 1956, Mrs. Russell is the former Edith Irene Grassfield. She was born at Olin May 7, 1895, the daughter of Jerry and Ella Grassfield. She graduated from Olin High school and attended Iowa State Teachers college, (now UNI), Cedar Falls. She taught school at Morley, Stanwood, Macksburg and Mt. Auburn.

She married Harlan Russell Dec. 31, 1924, at Morley. The couple farmed near Morley until moving to Mechanicsville in 1956. She was a member of Faith United Methodist church, Morley; the Ugoa Igoa club, Garden club, Woman's club and Martha Circle of the United Presbyterian Women in Mechanicsville.

Survivors include her husband; a son, H. Everett Russell, Mechanicsville; 4 sisters, Mrs. Charles (Grace) Seegar, Morley; Mrs. Edna Zaruba, Olin; Mrs. T. L. (Wilma) Ward, Arnolds Park; and 4 grandchildren, Robert, Beverly, Lynn and Marilyn Russell. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Ray Grassfield of Olin and a sister, Mrs. Morris Ferguson of Lisbon.
