Funeral services for Matthiesen Pauls, 79, were held Oct. 9 in the family home at Lowden with the Rev. Arthur Tinge officiating. Burial was in Van Horne cemetery near Lowden.

Casketbearers were Wilbert Muhs, Marvin Muhs, Allan Muhs, Robert Muhs and Neil Mess, nephews of the deceased and Marvin Pauls, a cousin. Mrs. Rudy Hinrichs and Mrs. Marvin Jeffery had charge of the flowers.

Mr. Pauls died at his home in Lowden Oct. 6.

He was born Oct. 23, 1887, in Lowden, the son of Kossuth and Wilheminia Rixe Pauls. He received his education in the Lowden public school and attended Duncan Business college in Davenport.

He assisted his father in the lumber business until 1895, when the family moved onto a farm south of Lowden. He served on the board of directors of the American Trust and Savings bank, Lowden, for 30 years. Part of that time he was chairman of the board. He also served as secretary of the Lowden Creamery association. Mr. Pauls was a life-long member of Zion United Church of Christ, Lowden.

He retired and moved into Lowden in 1962.

Survivors are his sister, Louise Pauls, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
