Funeral services for Mrs. Ben Penningroth, 61, were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 30 at the First Methodist church, Tipton, with the Rev. Eugene Miller officiating. Burial was in the Red Oak cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joe Shima, Ed Crock, Ray Crock, Jr., Raldo Horman, David Kingsbury and Don Parker. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Eiler and Mr. and Mrs. John T. Miller were in charge of flowers.

Mrs. Penningroth died Sept. 27 in Mercy hospital, Iowa City, following an extended illness.

Jessie Elizabeth, daughter of Archibald Lester and Lucy Elizabeth Walenta Safley, was born Feb. 26, 1906 at Tipton. She was educated in the Tipton public schools.

She was married to Benjamin Gottlieb Penningroth at the Little Brown church, Nashua, Oct. 5, 1928 and was a lifetime resident of the Tipton area.

Mrs. Penningroth was a member of the Tipton Woman's club, the Harmony Point Aid society and was active in 4-H work.

She is survived by her husband; her mother, Mrs. Lucy Safley, Tipton; 3 daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Darlene) Demaree, Sullivan, Ill.; Mrs. Ellis (Marjorie) Stonerook, Clarence; Mrs. Arnold (Carolyn) Schaper, Sheffield, Ill.; 2 sons, Raymond, Tipton and Darrell, Fort Dodge; 13 grandchildren, Gwenda, Kendall and Loren Demaree; Ann, Mark, Kent and Thomas Penningroth; Jean, Karen, Dana and Gary Stonerook and Jon and Stephen Schaper.

Also 2 brothers, Archibald Safley, Tipton and Foster Safley, West Liberty and a sister, Mrs. Robert (Florence) Smith, Sacramento, Calif.
