Mrs. Catherine Smith Fisher Was born Jan. 18th, 1818, in York county, Penn., was married to Joseph F. Fisher in 1835. The couple came here in an early day and settled on a farm about five miles southwest of Lowden, and in their younger years they joined the church of the United Bretheren, holding membership therein until their end. They died with faith in the Lord. The husband as early as 1884, now the wife followed. She died Saturday Jan. 3rd, 1903, near Cherry Valley, Ill., at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ellen Billmyer, where she had been visiting for the past three months. Her son James went from here to Ill. and arrived with the remains of his mother and in company of his sister, Mrs. Billmyer, at Lowden Monday evening. John Fisher of Glidden, youngest son of the deceased, was also here for the funeral, which was held Wednesday from the home of James Fisher, four miles south of here. The services were conducted by Rev. Potter of the M. E. church at Lowden. They laid her to rest in the Fairview cemetery aside the remains of her husband. Besides her husband, five of her children preceded her into the better world, they died in early youth but five sons and three daughters survive to mourn her demise, together with thirty grand children and nine great grand children. Besides the children of deceased already named there were at the funeral, her daughter Mrs. Chas. Peters and Joseph a son of the deceased who like her son James reside here. Her sons George F. of Oregon and Frank of Kansas, and daughter Mrs. Sarah Fleagle, also of Kansas and their families were, on account of the great distance, not present at the funeral.
