Services May 6 For Mrs. George Langdon, Newspaper Publisher

Funeral services for Mrs. George Langdon, 55, co-publisher of the Tipton Newspapers, were held May 6 with the Rev. Eugene Miller officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Raymond Silver, James Ballas, Marion Hancock, Howard Hamilton, Judge B. J. Maxwell and Ralph Gruenwald. Mrs. Dick Hancock was organist. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Doty and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Clark were in charge of flowers.

Mrs. Langdon died May 4 at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, where she had been a patient for approximately 5 weeks.

Berniece Mary, daughter of Joseph and Nettie Beck Ostino, was born at Numa, Nov. 24, 1911. She graduated from Melcher high school and received a bachelor of science degree in commerce from the University of Iowa.

She was married to George Langdon at Ottumwa Aug. 25, 1933.

The Langdons lived in Iowa City where she served in secretarial positions at the University of Iowa. In 1943 they purchased The Tipton Conservative. Mrs. Langdon served as co-publisher, women's editor and columnist for The Conservative and later for the Tipton Newspapers.

She was active in civic and church affairs and women's organizations.

Mrs. Langdon was a member of the First Methodist church and held many offices in the Women's Society of Christian Service.

She served as president of the Tipton Business and Professional Women for 2 years and was vice-president for 2 years. She was active in both the district and state B.P.W., serving as state public relations chairman in 1954 and a member of the state nominating committee in 1966. She was District II legislation chairman in 1965.
