Funeral services for Melvin C. Deerberg, 62, Clarence, were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 1989 at St. John's United Church of Christ, Clarence. The Rev. Don Eskew officiated. Mrs. Robert Hasselbusch was the organist and St. John's adult choir sang. Pallbearers were Dewey Dircks, Wayne Deerberg, Robert Rix, Herman Helmold, Alvin Becker and David Baker. Burial was in St. John's cemetery.

Mr. Deerberg died Aug. 28 at his home in rural Clarence following a sudden illness.

The son of Carl and Anna Feddersen Deerberg, he was born Nov. 16, 1926 near Clarence. He married Evelyn Wenndt Nov. 21, 1948 at Clarence.

He was a lifelong farmer in the Clarence area. He was a member of St. John's church and a former director of the Clarence Telephone Co.

Mr. Deerberg is survived by his wife, Evelyn; 3 sons, Darrell, Cleveland, Ohio; Gary, Bennett and Russell, Tipton; a daughter, Diane Kay, West Des Moines; 2 brothers, Lorenz and Raymond, both of Bennett; a grandson and stepgrandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers.
